専門・研究テーマ

My main research focuses on how speakers of other languages can best buildtheir English vocabulary; in other words, I am interested in second languagevocabulary acquisition. I am also interested in investigating the use ofdiscourse markers as Japanese students speak English.

授業方針

My teaching policy is to encourage the students to use as muchEnglish as possible in the classroom. I try hard to make my classes fun and interesting, but it is up to the students to work hard to improve their English skills.I expect the students to attend all the lessons, to be punctual and to be preparedto study hard. In life, nothing is easy, but if you try, try again you can succeed.

自己紹介

My name is Roger Huw Jones and I come from Wales, which is a small part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Many Japanese people think of the UK as being England, but England is just one partof the country.

I have been teaching in Japan for more than 14-years, and I love teaching English at Dokkyo University. I think the students here are very good. I believe there are three important things in coming to this university. Firstly, you should study to improve your education. Next, you should try to have a lot of fun, and thirdly, you should try to experience all the things that this great university has to offer.

Japan is now my home and I like living here very much. In my free-time, one thingI like to do is to get out into the countryside and enjoy lovely hot springs.Gunma has many such beautiful places, and one of my favorite places is Takaragawa onsen.Have you ever been there?

I have many hobbies such as keeping fit, playing table-tennis and tennis.I also enjoy acting and have been involved in several plays in Tokyo including: “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof”, “Edward III” and “Arms and the Man.”

座右の銘・好きな言葉

One of my favorite single words is “Yes” because it is so positive!I don't like the word, “No.” I also don't like giving up on things.I don't want to hear, “I can't do it” but I do want to hear, “I'll do my best.”

My other favorite expression is:
If at first you don't succeed, try, try again!

And finally remember:
It's your life, and it's up to you to make the most of it!

私の薦める一冊

“It's Not About the Bike: My Journey Back to Life” by Lance Armstrong. In this story, this world famous cyclist talks about how he overcame cancer to becomeone of the best cyclists of his generation. His story shows what a person can doif they really try. It is an inspirational story of how one man overcame a terrible diseaseto become the best in the world at the grueling sport of cycle racing.

学生へのメッセージ

Whatever your dreams, try hard, and you will succeed. Try to help othersin their dreams. Above all in life, we must show compassion, kindness, love and understanding towards others.
