Faculty of Foreign Languages, Department of English

Gain English abilities to use on the world stage

In the Department of English, our students gain practical English abilities and strive toward their next horizons. To expand their worlds through English and cultivate knowledge and culture, 1st- and 2nd-year students focus on increasing their English abilities. From the 2nd year they deepen their specialized knowledge through these four courses: Language, Literature and Culture, Cultural Communication, and International Studies. The ability to understand literature in advanced specialized fields and to discuss ideas will surely be a great strength when you spread your wings on the world stage. There are also senior students who have moved on to graduate school are working toward even further horizons, such as becoming English teaching staff or entering diplomacy. We hope you will all find your own horizons to strive for in the Department of English.

Increase your English ability in classes separated by level

Separate classes are organized based on the scores of a TOEIC® test given when students enter the university. Work to acquire advanced English language proficiency through an effective curriculum.

Basic course taken by all first-year students

Comprehensive lessons in the four skills – reading, writing, speaking, and listening – include many opportunities for instruction by native speakers. This builds your foundation for English ability.

Full-time teaching staff provide 4 years of support

Support is provided to students by class advisers for the 1st and 2nd years, and seminar advisers for the 3rd and 4th years. They will discuss study methods and possible paths with you.
